  2. If you plan to fire a full or partial kiln load, either gas or electric, you must pay for that firing prior to having your work bisque fired. You may then place your work on the bisque cart without logging and measuring each piece.
  3. A log of those who have paid for either a kiln load or a block of firing will be kept in the firing notebook. Each person will have a page documenting their payments, charges and dates of firing.

Firing Fees for the General Public
For the public, the charge for firing is $.03 per cubic inch, payable as follows:
  1. Pieces will be measured and cubic inches calculated when work is brought in; payment is made at the time the work is left to be bisque fired. Bisque firing is usually done in about a week. Our bisque temperature is cone 06.
  2. The firing charge includes glaze firing, and use of studio glazes if the person is familiar with our glazes and glazing techniques. We do not provide glazing instruction. Pots must be free of glaze on the bottom, and up 1/8-1/4 inch on the side. Pots will not be fired if bottoms are not clean, or glaze is too thick and flaking off the pot.
  3. A person leaving pots for glaze-firing must be absolutely sure what clay they are firing, and the correct firing temperature of that clay. Pieces left for glaze firing are placed on the appropriate glaze cart. We fire low fire clays to cone 04, mid-range oxidation clays to cone 6, and high-fire stoneware in reduction to cone 9+.
  4. The customer assumes responsibility for any damage occurring as a result of a mistaken identification of their clay firing temperature. A piece that is fired to a temperature higher than is appropriate for that clay will cause a melt-down, destroying the piece and usually destroying the kiln shelf. The customer must agree to pay Claymakers the replacement cost of any damaged kiln shelves, ranging from about $35.00 to $55.00, depending on the size of the shelf.
